Default This Wasn't Expected!

Finally got the OEM cam out of my 89 vette to install the TPIS Super L98 cam but found cam bearings are looking like crap. I’m pretty sure the rod & main bearings are going to look similar. At 73k miles I’m quite surprised but I bought it at 64k so who knows what caused this. it’s been almost a decade since driven but I don’t recall any oil pressure issues of any kind.

The problem now is what to do moving forward. My plan is to pull the engine out & take a look at the rod & main bearings.

Below are the bearings:

I just pulled apart my 92' for the same reason. Cam bearings looked very similar to yours, but rods and mains were great.
108K miles.

Never look at cam bearings. You don't check, no issues lol.

That is pretty bad looking though.

Mine look just like that. I attribute the terrible bearing conditions to the car sitting for many years at a time in high humidity outdoors and then started with no pre-lube. Run good oil and plan for a rebuild in the future.

In the meantime...

Send it.
