Well, I need to try something. Volunteer Vettes sells (FX3) replacement shocks, but I know they are not the same type of adjuster/pigtail as the F45 RPO (thanks so much for the correction).
Someone has replaced 1996 F45 shocks with something, so that the adjustment control will still work. What did they do?
You can only replace F45 shocks with F45 shocks and retain the factory adjustment system. The liklihood of finiding an NOS set is low--and then you have to remember even though it's NOS they are 26 yrs old.
There is no need to "fool" the computer on a '96--the speed limiting feature is only on '97 and up cars. If you replace with standard shocks you will get a "Service Ride Control" light--just pull the DIC panel and remove the bulb. Nothing else will be affected.
When I swapped out my F45 shocks I went with the Bilstein B8 (Z51) spec. They don't make the ride overly harsh or tough to handle.
