Hi
I have a 1992 C4 Base. Have the heads off etc so I have space to do some other work while I'm at it.
I'm replacing the steering rack, ball joints and tie rod ends.
Noticed the rubber control arm bushings looking pretty cracked and dried out so I want to replace them.
I've used polyurethane in other vehicles and wasn't impressed as they squeak a lot and eventually dry out and fail.
Any suggestions/advice on anyone selling refurbed control arms or good experiences with a particular brand of bushings etc would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Phil.
Up front, using poly is fine. I actually had them and never had a squeak. I would guess that SuperPro is both longer-lasting and easier to install. The Del-A-Lum bushings are great, but probably a little overkill for an otherwise-stock street car. There are no rubber bushings or refurbished arms with new rubber bushings available anymore.
Thanks Matthew.
I ordered a set of Del-A-Lum bushings.
Are there any down side to these, like harsher ride, too much road "feel" etc?
Those things are the shizzle. They might ride slightly harsher, but there won't be too much of a penalty. In a C4, the lower control arms take only small vertical forces from bumps because the springs are fairly far outboard on them, and the uppers take none at all. I think you'll be happy with them. Let us know what you think after you're done with the installation.
