I am considering the addition of a Corsa exhaust. Why is this better than just replacing the stock mufflers with a set high performance mufflers? It seems that the stock exhaust tubing is of sufficient size to allow good air flow?
One of the reasons why the LT1 and C5 guys like Corsas is because they have very little resonance and are quiet at cruising speeds. So you dont get a headache on extended drives. But they will scream when you step on it.
The stock exhaust on the LTs is better than early c4s, you would actually see more gain from headers in the HP department than a catback.
So the only reason for you to really need to go to one of these expensive exhaust systems is sound preference. Performance-wise there really isnt much difference between any of them, unless the tubing is substantially bigger.
The benefits of the Corsa have been mentioned. Mainly it's sound and visual appeal. Personally I like the look of the stock LT1 tips so I had a set of flowmasters installed and kept the stock tips. Granted they have a bad resonance at about 1800 - 2000 RPM's, but the simple solution is to not drive at that RPM. With a 6-spd this is very easy, gets a little harder with the auto.
For the most aggressive sound you can't beat them. Ditch the cats, throw in some headers and remove the resonator and they sound even better. They sound great without the raspy high pitched note of straight pipes. Just my $.02 the resonance bothers some people.
