Default l98 headers with an lt1?

can i use headers from an l98 with my lt1? what modifications would i have to make. It seems there are lots of headers available for l98 cars, and only a few for lt1 cars...

thanks in advance!

I believe that they will work, but not sure about clearance issues. I am also interested in this as well...

looks like we are all in the same boat, have you gotten any headers since this post??? if so what did you get? as far as i know the only header that will bolt up and use the air tubes that are stock on lt1's are tpis long tubes. hooker 2151 have no provivions for egr or air. the 2149 hookers are not correct and will not fit due to the air tubes that are welded on them. hope that helps.

I had LPE 1-5/8" long tube L98 headers on my 95' LT4; I can only speak for the LPE's because they all vary in how the primary tubing is routed.

I didn't have any problems, they were very close to the fuel lines on the pass side (within 1/2") and close to the brake lines on the driver’s side, at the time I just wrapped everything up in Thermo-Tech heat wrap. I've since switched over to Watson headers because I wanted to move up to 1-3/4" primary’s, I was border line on the primary dia @ 1-5/8" with my HP & decided to go with the top end power on my 6 speed car since I will also be running 4.10 gearing, so we shall see.. ;)

I do believe many of the group here are using the Hooker L98 headers on the LT series engines without any issue's, hopefully one of em' will chime in soon.

As far as whether or not they'll fit the engine, engine compartment and floor pan areas, you should have no problems. Externally, the Gen 1 and Gen 2 motors are the same size. Where you will run into problems is connecting to the remainder of the exhaust system and AIR system. The L98 exhaust is a 2-into-1-into-2 system, where the LT systems are duals all the way back. Of course, if you change the remainder of the exhaust system to fit the L98 headers, you're technically no longer smog legal anyway, so the AIR system wouldn't make a difference ;)

If emissions aren't a problem get Hooker 2151's. They bolt up perfectly. You have to modify the exhaust a little but it's not bad. If you need the AIR system get the 2149's but be aware that some of the stuff might not be exactly in the right place for the LT1.

I've got the 2151's on my car, probably the best bang for the buck that I've done.
