4+3 owners: question about short-throw shift kit
I just opened the package, and they'res two short shift links, but one is about a 1/4" longer than the other. Which link goes on which shift rod? The instructions don't mention anything of the sort. Or will this be obvious when I install it?

When you unbolt the OEM links you'll see that one of them is longer, too. Just replace them correspondingly...
...And then you get to tear apart your console, dash, seat, and trans tunnel side panel to get to the shifter alignment slot...And make up a flat "key" to align all the plates in Neutral, because there are no holes for a rod (like Hurst uses)...
...What fun!!!... :D
After doing it 8 or 9 times, youll get it down to 45 minutes or so...
Even though Rich will smack me..... I didn't do that ripping apart of the interior to readjust my shifter. I held the shifter in dead neutral while dad adjusted it down on the linkage. :)

The easiest way would be to sucker my dad into doing it... :jester
I've already done it twice, the keyway tool didn't help much, it was smoother when I just adjusted, and rechecked until movement was free. It still catches if you try to move between the gates with some force on it, because it seems the slots aren't all the exact same size.

...No dad here... :cry
The console etc had to come out eventually...A lot of the plastic hold-down tabs were broken...And I needed to change the O/D switch to the '85 style for the relay bypass...
Amazing all the poopie that finds its way into the shifter cavity...And under the seat...
I've been swapping shifters in & out all Summer; it actually takes less than 45 minutes now... :yesnod:
