... and I still don't have it back. He hasn't even started on it! We told him it wasn't a huge rush, but expected it would be done by now. Anyways my dad stopped by his shop yesterday as he does EVERY monday to see if they are done since it is near his Snap-On route.
Well this week the excuse was "Oh I'm so sorry, I know I told you they would be done this week for sure. I've just been so busy getting ready for my booth at the World of Wheels show at the expo center this weekend."
Grrrr.... :cuss
Well the "good" news is that I'm going to that show with a few of the local forum people. I can't wait to see him and say "Hey do you do aluminum head work? Oh you do! How about you start with mine that you've had for 6 weeks!!!"
The problem is this guy is really good, so I really don't want to have to pull them out of his shop and go elsewhere.
Yes, but I am getting anxious. I have already put 10k miles on my mom's car. I'd like to get the vette going again so I can drive that and not HAVE to buy another vehicle like I am trying to find now and save up some more for spring to get a better one.
Sold it for 900 beans a long time ago. 900 more than it was worth :) The brake lines had rusted and one blew out making it downright dangerous. I didn't have the time to repair it so I sold it "as is".
Scorp you said two thing in the last two days that are gonna justify what I am gonna suggest:
Get some AFR 190 and be done with it :D
1st comment: I wanna spend some money!
2nd comment: Are these heads going for more than they are worth?
That way you get to spend your money, sell your heads when you get them back, and get your car running with probably better results than you would have normally had.
 I thought of doing that exact situation yesterday. :yesnod: Only crappy part is the AFRs wouldn't be here for 6 weeks. Could get some Canfields immediately though.
Scorp, sorry to hear that it's taking so long. Look on the bright side though - there are some restorers of the C2 and C3 components which take upwards of A YEAR to get to them! My alternator rebuild was almost 4 months. Sometimes quality work requires patience and then more patience and more patience... :smash: At least it sounds like you don't have to worry about the quality of the work.
What's wrong with the heads? Want to send them to FL?
A rogue item got into cylinder #6. It destroyed the piston, probably bent the rod, and bent the cylinder head near the sparkplug exposing the cooling passage. It needs to be welded and then milled.

No need to worry it will take the 400 block at least that long to get prepped and the other bajillion items to be ordered and recieved. :D
what size bottom end will be going under those heads?
I would think if it is a 400 you would bigger heads
I haven't bought any new blocks. I've been tossing around the idea of building up a 400 block though. If I did I would absolutely sell these off and go bigger.

I feel your pain, when i was doing my SR project, I had the heads take 2 weeks when the guy promised me 3 days. I would have done the entire project in one week if not for the heads. But this guy was the best in town, and he did the same, he never touched them till after 10 days when i asked for them back because he was taking too long! These guys just dont care! Its too bad that we cant go elsewhere and show them how to properly run a business! In the real world, its "I needed this yesterday" and it better be done today!
Buy the Corvette Edelbrocks from Summit, theyre like $900 or so....I almost did.
Scorp,
Theres a place in Brocton called Circle Performance owned by johnny andrick (sp?). He does a lot of cylinder head repair. I've seen some of his work - sometimes he recreates huge chunks of pieces missing from the head.

I feel the pain. My car was down most of the summer for a new upper end / read end project. I was originally told that I'd get the car back in a week or 2. Three months later, got it back and had to tinker with it for a few weeks to iron out bugs in the setup. Gotta love those project management skills. :-)
Well Scorp not to throw salt in the wound, but my 406 will be back before your heads are it looks like. You want me to just send the entire motor to you. It could be for sale for the right price. It now has the Callies crank, oliver rods, Wiseco pistons (reverse dome) and a set of very ported Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads. I am supposed to pick it up friday.
