And it just occurred to me that I could use a longer coupling nut and eliminate the nut I have up against the header flange. Would be easier to torque too.

I believe I'd retain that nut to secure the header flange to cylinder head. Use maybe a pair of 'jamb nut' at the header flange, then the taller hex.

Wow, Old thread. I did the same thing as you, but I put a solid sleeve that was tight. With headers, the flange is so much thinner, you need to space it to ensure it doesnt bottom out in the head. This helped with the vibration too. The third rod that goes up to alternator, I am sure it helps, but not as much as these two for the AC compressor.
