Anyone try a re-solder of ecm main board on their own? '93 was doing the classic security flash once & then ASR light on. After shut down would be the crank, but no start. Read a number of members have had this happen.
My tech2 would show:
CCM errors H 41 - ECM Serial data loss & H74 LED Dim output open or short to grnd.
EBCM H 72 Serial data loss.
I unplugged the EBCM to eliminate it from making noise on the bus & the CCM errors still come back, although not the ASR/No start issue.
I pulled the ECM, & close exam under my lighted magnifier showed nothing obvious but I went ahead & re-flowed solder on a bunch of spots that seemed light on the factory solder job.
Back together & errors have stopped but weather has turned wet/cold so will be awhile for a real world hot test.
I went with SIA. I have a decent soldering station with fine tip point I could have gone after it myself but decided to let them have a go at it since they do a lot and know what to look for. Plus there is a warranty….
There is nothing magic about this though, good for you for tackling it. If you got the right joint/connections you should be gtg. Just make sure it is clean and re conformal coat it if it was coated (?).
Just a quick update... so, not 100%... LED error has gone away without returning now but the serial data error(s) still persists after a warm up. CCM looses serial connection to ECM & ABS just looses serial. Really don't want to pull CCM, such a pita to get out.
Going to call a few places in the AM for current quotes/advice on which or if both units should be serviced.
