Default 1995 Opti Spark

I know this question has been asked maybe 1000 times. If I need to replace the OPTi what are my choices so that it’s like the original?

i’m starting to notice a small amount of radiator fluid on the floor (tablespoon) and my fear is the water pump. I can’t find the leak on the top. within the next week I’ll have it put up on a lift to look underneath.

by the way I only drive the car 4000 miles a year (84,300 miles on it). Three to five years from now I will purchase a 2010 C6 and sell the car.

Sometimes there is a skip in the motor. It is less than a second. It is random and only notice at idle.

I see accel, msd, and the Chevrolet unit.

Any thoughts on these?

So, while you are thinking of another optispark, I found that my water pump started leaking from a gasket, not the weep hole. Your opti may be just fine as mine was.
Is the engine running bad or not at all? Throwing codes? Or are you asking for a preventive measure?

With that, the two I have heard kicked around with the most accolades are the OptiDoctor and Petris.

I second Petris-- I believe the OptiDoc has closed shop. From my understanding, the issue with vented opti's is water mucking up the rotor/pick-ups and/or the barring waring out.
If your car is running fine now, you're opti is more than likely fine. Find your leak and fix it, don't fix what ain't broke ;-)

If yours is original I would email Brad the opti doc and literally beg him to rebuild it. Yes, he has closed shop because he can't get enough original pickup sensors. That is what I would do. NOW, if yours has been replaced by a junk one then all bets are off. Dan

I’ve talk with the doc a few months ago he doesn’t want to fix my original opti stating they are too old and brittle to work on I went with Petris and I’m 100% satisfied so far

Question - What is Petris? Is that a brand or a person who can repair our original Opti?

Thanks. I wonder what part is too brittle? He replaces the rotor and cap. Everything else is steel except some interior wiring. Dan

I contacted Petris and they are 3 months out and I need to do this soon as it is leaky more. Hopefully they can help as I hate to buy a less quality unit.
