Default muffler question

Hey Y'all
I like the look of the mufflers on my 91 vert.
Has anyone simply Gutted the mufflers? I know about the deletes, but I wish to keep the Stock look.
Thinking that I could cut the bottom, Gut the chambers and them shut.

Has anyone done this?

I've never done this to Corvette mufflers but I have done it to other cars. It's not too hard just a little time consuming. A MIG or a TIG could easily stitch weld the muffler back together. I would weld in 2 1/2 inch inlets also. That way if down the road if you want bigger exhaust you would already have it and it would look mostly stock from the outside.

Do you mean the tips or the "oval box" ? Tips are pretty easy to replace.

Hmm, If you're gonna go through the trouble, I'd gut them from the top to keep a cleaner untampered look
I remember I seen a split cross section of a C4
muffler somewhere awhile ago, but it was actually the resonator. This might get you an idea tho idk

You might see baffles similar to this

Mine rotted out inside and droned like hell. You can do it but it'll probably drive you nuts.

I saw a you tube video where a guy did that to his 91. Hard to tell from a video but it sounded pretty aggressive, which is what he wanted.
I am reluctant to do that on mine.
If you destroy the originals by gutting, and you hate the drone or it is too loud, you have to go dump some real cash for some good mufflers that will fit your system. No going back.
With aftermarket’s, you know what you are getting and can always flip back to stock and sell the aftermarket’s to recoup some cost.
I use mine for long trips from time to time. I just decided to keep the stock mufflers.

From my understanding if you weld a pipe inside of the muffler the drone isn't so bad. Drone gets horrible when there's a big empty chamber in the exhaust. Same reason that when guys would punch out there cats the drone would get bad but a straight pipe wasn't as bad. I would try welding a pipe in the muffler and see ho it sounds. If you hate it your not out much.
