Default Telescoping wheel problems

The telescoping mechanism wont lock up. It moves back and fourth no matter how tight the screw is. I was trying to put a quick release hub on but now i cant seat the splines because the shaft keeps moving back and wont lock in place. Is there something km missing or doing wrong?

The bolt that screws down the center of the steering shaft presses against a half moon key that is located in a slot in the shaft. The key rotates and wedges the shaft locking it in position. You can screw a bolt in the center to lock it. If you aren't using the telescope feature you can screw an allen head set screw in the shaft to lock it where you want it.

I was planning on keeping the telescoping function. I have the large center screw and I put it all the way in and it doesn't lock. Do you think there is a problem with the half moon key or is it wa problem with the screw because I don't see why it wouldn't lock. It worked just fine before I took the steering wheel off

My guess is the half moon key slipped out of place.

There should be the 'wedge, the locking rod' and then the screw for telescoping adjustment. If you've no 'lost/misplaced' parts this should enable you to sort and reassemble. The screw and lever should be easily understood.
