Default MOD Plan....?...

I'm not much of a "mechanic", but I'm trying to put together a plan for modding the 96. I'm going to put on a Corsa catback, cut lid, and K&N...
The little things aren't a problem. My question is, what do I start with on the engine? Do I go for an aftermarket intake? Heads? Cam?....etc.....

Where do I start?

Thanks

You dont need new heads or intake, just have the current ones ported and the valvetrain upgraded. (Ti retainers, better springs, 3 angle valve job, etc.)

Most popular cam is the LT4 hotcam, after that, all youll want is headers.

Can the LT4 Hotcam kit be installed in a "stock" engine or is there other things that need to be done in conjuction with it?

You can install it in the stock engine, but you should really upgrade the springs at the same time you put it in, while you have the heads off.

Only other thing youll need is a Computer reprogram to make it idle good and make the best power it can.

Best thing to do is buy the Hotcam kit and wait until you can afford to have it all done at once.

So you think this is a good starting point? Or could the money be better spent elsewhere?

Thanks

Well if HP is what youre after, its the best and most proven way to go.

But if youd rather hold off on that engine stuff, you can go with a 2600-2800 Stall Torque Convertor and 3.54/3.73 gears. Actually, if youre more concerned with how quick the car is (ET in the 1/4mi), those will give you great gains.

I've been going back and forth on the gears...Honestly, I'm not crazy about letting someone dig into my engine (I have yet to find someone in AL that I trust to do it). :nopity

Another plan would be - have patience and gather all the info you can on proven setups. Then with the info you can decide which way you want to go depending on what you expect out of your car - Heads, cam, gears, etc.

It took me 2 years to decide how I wanted to mod my car. This is an ongoing fever that never ends.

Good luck
