I pulled my car into the garage the other day and smelled a fuel smell. That said, I've been meaning to find out if my injectors are good or not, i've heard of checking the resistance, how do I do that?
Pull the injector clips off the top. If yours are like the 89 clips, just push the metal spring clip towards the other side of the engine, once it depressed pull up. It will come up off. Yours may be a different setup.
Anyways once they are off, you will see two metal tab leads on the injector. Put one lead of the ohm meter on each of them and record the reading. I did mine about 1.5 yrs ago and I think they read ~17 ohms. What you are really looking for is the difference between them. For instance if all of them are ~17 and one is 13 there is most likely a problem.
Post what you get and a few of us can most likely help.
A little more info:
Stock standard Bosch injector should read 16.2 Ohms
If they ohm out less than 16 Ohms, they need to be replaced. They may have a different resistance hot vs cold. This would mean some of the coils are shorting out w/ the change in temp. This would indicate a replacement is needed.
Well, they all read between 16.8 and 17.0 after holding the leads on for about 20 seconds
Now that I looked at it, on the driver's side there's some sort of 'flange' on the back by the distributor, with a sensor of some kind, and a metal hose. About 10" later, the metal hose was blocked off by the previous owner, what on earth is this thing?
