Hi all. After trying to figure out why my 84 smokes and thinking it’s the valve seals, it’s starting to smoke even more. I’ve determined the rings are showing signs of going. After deciding it’s not worth going with a remanned long block, I’m going to pull the engine and rebuild it myself with my dad. What’s the best rebuild kit out there for the crossfire? I’ve found 85 TPI kits but I’m not sure if it’ll work for the CFI. I plan on keeping the motor stock.
Any stock 2 piece rear main seal rotating kit will work just fine, just have to figure out over bore...
Something like this if you're thinking of replacing everything. Or like this if you just want a piston kit and to reuse the factory parts... mind you you can change what you use from that. They're just suggestions to give you an idea.
I'd at least start with a roller long block. Vortec 350 or c4 L98.
He didn't ask for suggestions on what he should do. He stated quite clearly what he is going to do. Quote: "I’m going to pull the engine and rebuild it myself with my dad". Are you able to help him out with his question.

Hopefully you will not need an overbore and can keep those nice trw forged factory pistons. A mild cam upgrade would be a plus too.

I'll help him out when his flat tappet cam goes flat. Very common today on rebuilds.
Is a inside the car rebuild possible on the C4? By that I mean dropping the oil pan and removing the rods and pistons from under the car for a re-ring along with removing the main caps one at a time to slip in new bearings.
