Allright, I have got some bad things going on in my car since the start of the
new year. When I am driving around at high speeds (50+ mph) regardless of gear (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) when I am on throttle I hear a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the car, when I let off throttle it goes away. I am really freaked out by this and have parked the car till tomorrow or sunday so I can look around at a few things. Where should I start guys? I am thinking my rear end. I have 4.10 gears. More info on the car can be found @ http://www.silvereaglecorvettes.com

Can you describe the sound a little more...is it a humming or a whine? do you hear any other noises at lower speeds? Ive got some probs with mine now too and still trying to figure it out.
Can you pin it down to one side? Id have the U-Joints on the driveshaft and halfshafts looked at, look at the wheel bearings too while they have them off.
Not a corvette, but I had a whine that rose and fell with speed, but only when on the gas. Took it to my shop and he told me to get ready for another tranny rebuild. Take it to a transmission shop and take the tech for a ride.
I have the same humming sound in my car, and I know for a fact that it's worn bearings in the carrier. Last spring I pulled into my ex's parents driveway, and heard a comment about the back end of my car being filthy. I had heard it start to hum on the way there but didn't pay much attention. The breather on the top of the carrier had plugged, allowing pressure to build in the diff (due to temp) and the pressure actually blew the gasket out of the side of the housing. Needless to say I lost ALL gear oil and had driven at least 100 miles like that (since the inception of the humming), but it's held together so far...it's just annoying right now. I'll be rebuilding in about a month or so when so money comes in.
Long story short, I'd check the oil level in your diff.
