I currently need new tires for my 85 Corvette. Anyone know of a good tire brand that is affordable and can kinda do everything. Good to daily driver but won't get destroyed from a little bit of hard driving every once in a while. I do plan on getting a pair of rearslicks for the track also so if anyone has any recommendations for those also that would be nice
I recently put the Mickey Thompson Street Comps on my 92. I am very happy with them. I'm in Southern California and haven't driven them in the rain, so I can't comment on that. For cold 60 degree days to hot 100s they have been great. Plus I like having an old traditional hot rod brand tire. From what I read Cooper tire bought MT and then Goodyear bought Cooper but both left the design and formula alone.

Do u have a link to where you can buy them or did you get them from a shop? I'm looking around for any and all options. Like ik goodyear are generally good tired but idk if they are specifically good for corvettes or even if brand really matters. Usually for cars I don't care about I go for what's cheapest but this car i care about and want to make it look and perform it's best. M/T tires are def one of those tires where the name stands out and look nice and from looking at some pricing won't break the bank. I'm just a bit dumb when it comes to performance and prefer actual peoples opinions. I also live in Michigan so we get all kinds of weather here so I need a versitile tire. Won't be driving it in the snow tho
I bought them off ebay. It was actually an annoying experience. I asked my family for ebay gift cards for my bday and xmas since they are close together. Ebay wouldn't let me use more than 4 gift cards at a time. So it ended up costing me a little more to buy 2 sets of 2 than just get all 4. I would recommend contacting the seller on ebay and deal with them directly.
im not sure about the nitto 555 if they are available but i run them and they are quite good. if they are under inflated they do flat spot. i discovered that i just need to keep the tire pressures above 38 and they are fine and do not flat spot. when i am on the track with them ofcourse i adjust them way way down. then i put them way way back up after!
they are honestly a good tire all around. and relatively cheap.
Are you running the factory 16 inch wheels or 17s or 18s. If the 16s... there is basically a non existent choice of tire... 17 and 18 inch wheels fare better selection wise.
OP, there is another theead right now about the 255 x 16 early car size alternatives. Basically a “wide” 245 is your best bet for sticking with factory size.
There are certain brands that basically measure a fat 245 and some that measure a narrow. Have a look for that thread there are some pictures just posted of a good looking 245 thats what i would do if i wanted to stay factory rims.

Yeah those look sweet and honestly pretty well priced. I think that might be what I go with. What size do you recommend with 17" wheels
275/40/17 if your using at least a 9.5” wide wheel. I paid 160.00 from Summit with free shipping for mine, but I think the price has went up. Someone posted a link for them.
If you run 17x9.5 wheels, then you definitely want 275/40/17 tires for them. I don't know where you live, OP, but the best "three-season" tire for that size is going to be the Continental ExtremeContact Sport. They are extremely grippy dry-weather tires (much more so than the Nitto 555 G2 and somewhat more so than the Mickey Thompsons being discussed), they will be fine to drive down to at least 32F (but really more like 20F, and a good bit better than the other two tires), and they are one of the two best rain tires you can buy (better than any all-season and waaaaay better than the other two tires). They just aren't appropriate for snow/ice and super-cold weather. If you must run your tires in snow/ice, then the tire to get right now is the Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4. Best-performing tire that can also be run in winter weather.

Do you have any test data regarding the M/Ts? I have seen a lot of your posts with great info on the other tire brands, but nothing on the M/T tires. I like the M/Ts, but have only driven them in nice weather and never done anything near tracking them. Just light romps getting on the freeway.

I don't, I haven't really found any. I drove a very un-set-up C4 on them for an autocross run once: I found them to have good manners and decent grip but there was no chance to get any real data. They are based on the Cooper RS3-S, which was a good summer UHP tire over a decade ago. That tire was a good performer in the dry and it was trackable, but it was never a prime autocross tire. Based on that, it seems like a solid dry-weather tire but probably not the ultimate in grip. I'm inferring that the decade-newer Conti is probably a bit better in the dry. We know it's way ahead in the wet (it's better than everything in the wet except the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, which isn't available in this size). I've recommended the M/Ts for people needing the 315/35/17 size because the Conti ECS and Michelin PS4S aren't available in that size. I definitely don't think it's a bad tire, and I expect it will do everything better than the Nitto 555 G2 that remains popular. My guess is that it's similar in performance to the General G-Max RS, which is still available in 275/40/17,
