I am working on my '96 LT1 auto and pulled the throttle body to clean it up replace the gaskets. The coolant passage, unfortunately, looked very rough (pic attached).
I am replacing the water pump, radiator, hoses, etc. but does anyone have any suggestions of what else I should investigste/clean before reassembly? I am leery to install the new parts with how this looked.
It was mainly water, unfortunately, which prompted me to replace nearly all components of the cooling system. I'll be pulling the intake manifold eventually, but have not got that far yet.
Once I saw this, I was wondering where else this gunk/residue may be. 🤔

I suspect that’s your problem, running straight water, as it promotes rust. Once you get things cleaned up, including having the radiator professionally flushed and pressure tested, run a 50/50 mix of the proper coolant and distilled water. Distilled water is important as it contains no minerals.
Pull knock sensors from the block to help get sediment flushed out from there. Pull heater hoses from heater core and reverse flush it...handy tool: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lil-60900
