Hello! My son has a 1984 Vette, and every time he puts the car into Drive, the ECM/IGN Fuse blows. It doesn't happen at idle, or when revving, just when he puts it into drive, and it is immediate. Looking for help trying to figure out where to start tracking down this electrical demon! Thanks in advance for any and all help.
First thing is to get hands on a True Service manual not a hays or Chilton to see what circuits ECM & The actions involved in going into Drive.
is this a out of a blue problem or is something that showed up after a repair.
Have you tried unplugging the transmission see if the problem is in it, or in the car.
. Long shot here. The 84 and pretty much all of 85 and maybe a few on the very early 86s Automatics had a problem with a sharp molding slag on top of the transmission that can and has cut into the harness that runs over the top of transmission behind the Distributor so you might want to give it a little tug and see if it fixes thing's but that means you need that cut fixed.

I have the actual shop manual. The fuse was fine when he drove the car home. We have done a few repairs. Alternator was the most recent...And I think we moved the main ground wires a little when tracing the alternator wire...may have moved something to cause a ground?
