I'm going to do the top end of the engine in the near future and one of the things I'm struggling with is this harmonic balancer issue. Is there a better aftermarket balancer to use or should I stay with the stock balancer? Any help is appreciated! :)
Re: Which harmonic balancer would you choose? (cprgmr)
When I did my top end I went with a new one that I got from my Machine shop, same size a stock. I think it may have been a GM balancer, Im not sure if you could get a bigger one in the small space.
If you are approaching 100k miles I would suggest at least getting a new GM unit for around $66 for peace of mind. There are other makes like Fluidamper out there, but most people have no need for one of that caliber. :)
I went with an ATI Super Damper, for engine life. The model's they sell for the "Y" body are pricey though, I've got upwards of $300 in the damper & aluminum mounting hub.
The other day I noticed that someone has tooled up & is now bulding knock-off's of the fluid damper for our cars, and the price is very low, check this auction out guys; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1876177461
I wish he had those avaliable when I was bulding my engine...
