Default Porting the LT1 intake

Anyone have any experience doing this themselves? I'm either going to go with an LPE ported intake or do it myself. Any suggestions to take the guess-work out of it? TIA! :)

I've got a 94-97 LT1 intake in my workshop along with a set of aluminum LT1 heads. While the head's intake ports are really bad and in need of gasket matching, the intake manifold's intake ports are pretty good. Hogging out the manifold's intake ports won't help the mismatch, it'll just exagerate it.

I'd leave the intake manifold alone and start saving for the heads, that's where the bottleneck is (on the intake side).

This is exactly what my tuner (CNC Cylinder Heads) told me.

Yeah, unless you are looking for every single piece of horsepower possible it is a waste of time. The heads need the work. The intake really isn't much more than a box with holes in it.

Thanks for the replies guys - great info! Interesting though that on Lingenfelter's site they say that their port of the intake is good for 15 horses. Think it's just a sales job or not?

Check into CNC heads, I hear only great things about their product from customers that have them.

Talk to Pete at CNC Cylinder Heads and ask him what John Lingenfelter told him about LT1 intake porting.

There is no reason to port an LT1 intake except to increase the throttle body bore. Stock is good up to 52mm and you really don't need more than that without a lot more cubes flowing a lot more air.

Spend the money for the best heads and valve train you can. That is where the biggest gains are. CNC's heads are very good. :chevy

Holy schneikies! That was your vette in that article! After reading that piece, I knew that I had the right cam selection! 361 RWHP - that rocks! :smash: Just out of curiosity, how much are the CNC stage III heads? :)
