So I installed a new Stainless pick up and a AC-Delco pump ( Chinese junk in a AC-Delco box) to get the project car up and running. Well kinda running the Motor was toast and what a better reason to a Hot Rodder to build another Motor.
So lets realistically figure on 425 HP of mid range power to put down on an autocross coarse. I know the Aftermarket has made great improvements in the last decade for Muscle Car Carb to FI Fuel Tanks and drop in set ups for OEM Tanks. Using the search feature I'm not seeing a whole lot of activity on Fuel Pumps in the last 7 years or so. The Walbro and Racetronix seem the two most popular. Its not going to take anything to special as far as a Pump goes, its the Pick Ups that go with the Pumps specifically for a C4 gas Tank doing Autocross that I'm interested in. What are we using these days ?
I'm running a deatschwerks 255 in my 84. I like it because it's dead silent. I have a friend with a walbro 255 and it's loud. Not obnoxious but you know it's there.
PN was 9-201-1027. Not sure how it would do in a auto cross application. It is a stock replacement type pump.
I have a Walbro 450 in my 84. It sounds the same as the Walbro 255 I used to have. I made my own hanger out of an old stock hanger and some steel brake line I had in a scrap bin. I welded together a hanger that sits the pump with a little less angle then stock. I'm running E85 so I needed a pump that could move a lot of fuel. But the inlet on the 450 pumps are a lot bigger than a 255. So I had to get creative. But so far so good. I don't autocross, but I am an idiot and drive like one. I haven't run it out of fuel yet, even in hard turns at speed.
It looks like I will probably get one of the Holley Hyramat Socks for what ever Fuel Pump I use. The Walpro 255 sure gets mentioned a lot in the search's. I have done my fair share of Test and Tune try it and scrap it this time I'm just going down the easy road of what others have proven to work.
I have Hydramat 16-111 and a Walbro GSS 342 Pump headed my way. The Pump is supposed to snap right into the Hydramat. EFI Systems Pro was quick to answer my questions via e-mail and they got the order.
Fuel starvation is only an issue with less than half a tank of fuel. Run a full tank, the car handles better like that anyway. Better weight distribution and little fuel slosh.
Any results? I'm interested in adding a remote hydramat to a single tank with an in-tank pump in addition to the OEM bucket. However, I've read that the hydramat micron rating is too small for a pre-pump filter, which will shorten the lifetime of the pump?
