Been fighting with the overdrive on my 86 and just buy the bullet and ordered a rebuilt modified one from s&k transmission. I was told by a transmission shop that worked on it before I bought it that it can easily be pulled with the transmission in the car but was told by someone else to pull the transmission and everything. I do not have the tools to really pull the entire transmission. Can it be pulled with the transmission still in the car?
If the transmission shop said you can pull and replace the OD with the main box in the car, they are nuts. Can you probably but you would be loosing your mind trying to align up the reverse idler and spacers with the transmission laying flat, not mention doing this while bench pressing a little transmission.
Drain both transmissions Just pull as a unit T-10 and all then separate the OD from transmission on the ground or bench.
When time to assemble put T-10 into an old car rim to hold it pointing down. Line everything up and slide it together by lowering into position letting gravity hold those bits that need to be lined up.
. This would also be a good time to do the clutch your past the heavy stuff for a clutch job.

Was hoping to avoid the clutch part as it has a new clutch and rebuilt transmission with just a few hundred miles on them. Do not really have the stuff to align the clutch and everything up.

Then don't do the clutch if there is no need. Trans will slide in easier that way
I was hoping that might be the case but was not certain if it would all fall out after the shaft from the tranny slides out. Have not done much clutch/manual transmission work.

Don't sweat the clutch moving, as long as NO BODY steps on the clutch as soon as the transmission slides out No Toucha Da Clutch Pedal you'll be good for a quick no hassle return trip in.

Alright is there a bolt or trick I'm missing to get the torque tube to slide out of the bell housing? Slave is disconnected and the whole rear cradle is just hanging. Seems like the TT wants to separate an inch or so and then any further it just springs back where it was. Any advice?

Step by step
Exhaust out.
Drive shaft out.
All transmission linkages removed at the transmission.
Disconnect the cooler lines wires and detent cable (if car has one) if it does it has to be disconnected on top before disconnecting from bottom.
Now remove the most forward bolt on the C beam. on the Differental end loosen but do not remove the most rear let worklike a hinge on C beam.
Support transmission remove the two 18mm on the tailshaft housing, slide the beam to side and lower transmission the beam will fall in over the transmission.
Remove the four 18mm bolts that connect the T10 transmission to bellhousing give good shake transmission should just about fall on you if you're not careful
