Weight of factory & repro C4 wheels
Can anyone provide me with weights of one or more of the factory/repro 17x9 wheels?
For this to be meaningful, I'd like the weights for a std configuration, in other words one of the following: bare, bare w/ valve stems, w/ stem and nuts. Just specify what the value includes and I can factor roughly for it to come up with equivalencies.
The wheels of particular interest are:
- the 88-89 smooth wheel
- the 90 wheel (that didn't include the beauty cap)
- the factory ZR-1 wheels (silver A-Mold)
- the factory 96 GS wheels (black A-Mold)
- the 'OEM' (repro?) ZR-1 wheels sold by SLP Performance
also interested in
- the 'OEM' 10-Spoke 4th Gen Camaro wheel by SLP
I currently have the '89 wheels (mounted & not so easy to
weigh right now). I would like to get a second set of wheels
- I want to reduce weight but retain factory C4 appearance.
The 'OEM' ZR-1 5-Spokes from SLP at 699.00 seem too good
to be true. This is a lot less than these wheels cost from other
sources. IIRC, the A-Mold wheel is quite light - is SLP's wheel
just a heavy look-alike?
Thanks

The AFS Grand Sports are about 2 lbs heavier than the A-molds.
I don't have any 17x9's (I race on 17x11's all around), and the 17x11 AFS's are ~ 23.5 lbs/each

Any chance that you (or others out there) still have the stockers? Just set one of which ever style you have on the bathroom scale and post your findings here.

I can't give you all that info, but I can give you what I know about my wheels.
My stock 8.5 fronts with a 255 tire weighed in at 46 lbs, the 9.5 rears with 285's weighed 47 lbs.
The Black AFS 5 spoke 9.5 with 275's weighed 51 pounds and the rear 11" with 315's weighed 52 lbs.

Silver 9.5 CE A-Mold weighed in at 19 -20 lbs. It actually registered 19, but that was with me holding it on the bathroom scale (not overly technical, and I think I had my stomach sucked in)

"Our ZR-1/SS style rims in 17x9.5 with the black, white or silver finish is approx. 23.7 lbs in the +56mm size. "

I appreciate all the responses.
The info on mounted combinations is helpful and I had heard about CCW before but they weren't on my radar this time around (people say lots of good things about John@CCW). As for the SLP rims, I've emailed them for information on weights.
Thanks everyone.

AFS uses the original wheel as the mold to make their rims. The reason they weigh more is because the material is denser making a stronger rim than the Japanese OEM rim. (At least that's what they told me) ;)

Scoob: That sounds just right on the weight...when I first got my polished 5 spoke reproductions and stepped on the scale with them I was 24 lbs heavier than without them. From the previous quotes this means that air and tires weigh up to about 27lbs? That seems too heavy but I really have no idea.
