Default Does engine code matter with water pump?

I need to replace my leaking water pump on my 96' corvette LT1, I want to by a GMB 130-6074 water pump but it says it is for engine code 5, while my corvette is P.
Does engine code really matter with water pumps? Will I break my engine installing a engine code 5 water pump on my engine code P car?

If you compare GM/OE water pump all '93 - '96 LT1(P), spec'd (by part number) the same water pump as the '96 LT4(5). I've no idea who GMB is! Ain't interested in looking!

OP, you (and well everyone) should get into the habit of running the MFG'ers down. If you go to their website and look up that part, you will see under the vehicle fitment tab that it is for 93-96 and another 5.7 which is probably the LT4, since it is a 96-96 only.

Which entirely supports WVZR-1 answer to you about fitment.

The vendors must have only picked up the 2nd application in error.

keep in mind that

GMB Water Pump
All Water Pumps are manufactured in GMB's factories in Japan, Korea, Thailand, and China utilizing strict OEM specifications.
so you could get the good, the bad or the ugly depending on which plant is making these
