ECM in my 93 has bit the dust, remanufacturers say they cant fix it. If i buy a functioning 92 or 93 ECM pulled from another car would I be able to just drop it in and have my car running again? also any hints on where to locate the ECM i need would be greatly appreciated.
92-93 ECMs are the same as several other LT1 cars of the era (Camaros etc). So while not a huge supply there are more out there than you might think. You just need a matching ECM from any of those models, swap in your PROM and you should be gtg.
Unfortunately 93 was not a big production year for lt1s 93 z28, trans am, and formulas are candidates. There are a fair amount of people parting out f bodies. Pick n pulls.

thanks for any advice.
Does the 93 have the detonation detect chip in the bottom? If it does you need that back. I thought your car could use any lt1 besides 96? I even think a 96 would work if you just programmed out the 3rd O2 sensor. I know the other way works.. (95 in a 96).
Id be curious as to what could fail that would make your ecm unrepairable.. Id ask for it back. How did it go bad and how did you determine it was bad. that is not an easy thing to do (diagnose right down to the ecm without swapping one in).
If you can get your hands on a programmer, Id connect the old ecm and see if you can pull your existing programming and then send it to the new one. IF it is "broke" it doesnt mean it wont have a conversation with a programmer.

Right. I asked the same question about WHO said it was toast. I bet it wasn’t SIA!???
You cannot just swap computers with a later gen. You might be able to adapt a later ECM but it requires messing with the harness a bunch AFAIK. One old thread talking about..I think there is another where someone swapped the whole harness…if you have an auto that further complicates…

ok I stand corrected I guess. I know it is common to swap back to a non obdii.. but come to think of it, you might have to swap a couple of wires. look for one cheap and research what needs to be done then buy it if it is no big deal. Or spend the money and just get the right one.. but I wonder about your 'broke' ecm..
You didnt say anything about programming.. but if you did do that it is common to mess up the boot loader if your programmer hangs.. in which case, all you need to do is solder in some sockets, program two new chips with a eprom burner and you are back in business. I did a complete write up on that on here years ago. No Ecm gets the best of me.

I’m not the op, but maybe you weren’t directing that at me? I wish the OP would pop back on here so we could help but seems to be MIA.
