Default Dashboard panel full removal question

Hello there

I’m currently facing the not so pleasant task of reinstalling the heater core box after its replacement. Removing it was a PITA but now, as expected, reinstall it it’s even worse.

Since the car case for air distribution, the big black box located behind the central instrument panel and connected to the heater core box (img below), is a mess of rusty coolant and other unknown sticky stuff I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the whole frontal panel to clean all the ducts and cases and also reinstall the heater box cover with ease.

The dashboard is quite disassembled at the moment as I have removed many ducts, the ECM, many passenger side panels to reach the heater core but I’m anyway unable to guess how much far I am from my target.

May I kindly ask you if you have any suggestion about the feasibility of the activity or guide to follow for this task?

I’m leaving some pics of the current disassembly and contamination status.

Thank you!

I’m not sure I can answer your question but your pictures bring back memories of two heater cores I had to replace in my 89 when I had it years ago. Probably the most miserable job on a C4. I’d only take apart what you have to to get the new box in. Old plastic parts tend to break easily.

Thanks for the answer! In principle I would touch only the minimum amount of parts i need, unfortunately I'm unable to close again the heater core box, and the air ducts are really dirty, so I'll take the chance of removing the cluster and reinforcement bar. Wish me good luck as instructions on the service manual are somewhat abstract and I cannot find any other source of information.
