Hello , I'm in Okinawa Japan and going home to the US soon. My 89 6 spd. was stalling and not restarting. A mechanic that I believe knows what he is talking about said the fuel injectors are not good. For the last year the car has been misfiring in the exhaust pipe when I slow down. I have looked for air leaks and poor vacuum. Is there a test that would tell me what is going on inside the engine, dyno? I have Tuner Pro RT and some runs recorded. But, I really do not know how to use the information. He might be correct. but, I hate to just throw $1000.00 plus labor and hope he is correct. Thank you.
Especially if you have the original Multec injectors, your symptoms quite possibly could be bad injectors. If you have a multimeter, you could check the resistance of the injectors when hot, and the engine dies. Shorted injector(s) is/are a possibility. I had this happen several years ago and new injectors solved the issue.
Thank you for the response. I have ohmed the injectors. The are all correct. But, as we are all aware. That does not mean the injector is actually pumping fuel. The injectors are rebuilt from Shore FI, Long Island. I'm thinking I want to put new, not rebuilt injectors in the car. I never thought of checking them when the engine dies. It is a good suggestion thank you.
[QUOTE=Whaleman;1605639520]Where are you getting $1000.00 for a set of injectors? If your mechanic told you that he is not knowledgeable or not trustworthy. One of the two. Check Fuel Injector Connection - High Performance Fuel Injectors. Dan[/QUOTE
My bad. I looked up the GM injectors and they were like $145.00 each.. I just did a look up they are much cheaper than that. But, I do believe he is knowledgeable. Thank you
@jseremba I noticed you said you're in Okinawa, waiting to come home to US; how long does your car sit while you're away? Do you drain the gas before you leave (or when you get back)?
I'm not saying this is the cause, just wondering if you've considered this:
This is a great suggestion. The car has not been driven. But, it is started weekly and the gas is replaced. The stalling occurred before I left for Okinawa. When I purchased the car it had 10 year old gas in it. My mechanic put a match to the gas and it would not ignite, LoL. I wanted to have the car towed to the mechanic. About a mile from my house. So that it would be repaired when I got home. He said he has two months of work. So he could not take the car until i return. Which to me means. I am going on the new waiting list when I get home in Dec. So I will see the car in time for the next snow storm. So I am thinking of just replacing the FIs myself. Thank you all for your help.
I had a 89 that was doing what you said, new injectors took care of the problems. However they were replaced with GM injectors, paid an arm an a leg for a local Corvette shop to install them. My current 93 LTI also had the same symptoms, but this time for under $300 went with the Bosch lll from FIC. 4 years later it still running strong. They have a great warranty, and great service. Might be worth a look.
I was deployed to Kadena AB in 1984-5. Didn't have my '89 Corvette yet, but arranged to have a buddy drive my 1970 442 and motorcycle every couple of weeks and keep them topped off with fresh gasoline. The 442 in particular seemed to tolerate inactivity well. Good luck and welcome home.

Keep in mind the problems I am having. Was occurring when I was driving the car regularly. I mentioned my location so that people did not think I was not heeding the assistance they are offering me. When I get home I will be installing new Bosch 3 injectors. I think that year Corvette uses 22 lb/hr. injectors. Correct?
Couldn't tell from your original post whether the Vette was with you in Oki, but I suspected that it was back home in CONUS. Yes, 22 lb injectors were original equipment. These guys:

If you end up going with the GM GTP injectors, here is the data your tuner will need. Much like you I tend to overthink things like this, but these injectors have been great for my build that is at an identical horsepower level.
Jesus, my apologies for resurrecting an old thread!!!! My phone scrolled down and I errantly replied to a related thread. Sorry all - big boomer energy today.
