Which is best scantool/software for '96 LT4?
I would like to hear your opinions on the various options, and why one may be better than the other.
I need to make a decision pretty soon, I had to have AutoZone check and clear a code for me today...ICK!
Thanks,
Jeff
Stepping up in price, gee-whiz presentation, and ease of use would be AutoTap & EFILiveV I'm considering Autotap right now. Figure $100 - $125 more vs OBD-2
If you just want to pull and clear codes and look at a little data, I'd go with OBD-2. If you think you're going to get fairly serious about troubleshooting or do your own PCM tuning, I'd lean towards either of the other two.

For your 1996 LT4 there are several OBD2 scan tool sites available.
1) Ease Diagnostics at http://www.obd2.com or http://www.easesim.com
2) Autotap at http://www.autotap.com
3) AutoXray XP-240 at http://www.autoxray.com
4) MAC Tools at http://www.actron.com/cgi-bin/web_st...=1194458_16432
5) Alex C. Pepper's site at http://www.obd-2.com
6) Snap-ON has a new OBD2 handheld - see Scorp508
7) Auterra at http://www.auterraweb.com/auterra/index.html

Most of the OBD2 scan tools will scan a good number of OBD2 vehicles. Ease offers a GM OBD2 scan tool that scans all GM OBD2 96+ vehicles (even Saturns, etc.) with GM specific parameter sets for each vehicle. Ease also offers a Generic OBD2 scan tool that will scan many different OBD2 compliant vehicles even if it doesn't have a specific parameter set for that vehicle. Most of the other scan tools offer similar capability depending on the price and model of tool or software.
If you decide you might want to order an Ease scan tool, as a rep for Ease I can get you a rebate of 10% on everything you order through me. Check with Scorp508 for Snap-On scan tools.
