Does that MAF mod really work?

In my 88, it would appear that the screens are important in helping ECM to adjust fuel. they work, I believe, in conjunction with TPS.
I have read about people gutting the screens, but have seen no real evidence that it is an improvement. Maybe some SOTP's comments, but no real evidence. IMHO!
I have tried most of the "free Mods" and the only one I can truly say made a real significant difference was removing the "frisbee" on my L98. I am also quilty of SOTP on this, but I do know Iam a little quicker out of the corners as engine revs up a little quicker.
Cutting lids, throttle bypass, really didn't add anything for me, again SOTP!

First I done screens remove and second cut that fins.
After first I saw improvement, after second (fins) not.
In my opinion that free mods (cut air lid, KN filter, TB bypass and MAF screens remov.) works and I really feel that work on my car.

You can remove the screens with a utility knife. If you live in a warm climate, I wouldn't mess with the fins. they are there to help dissipate heat from the MAF. According to TPIS, GM had some MAF failures during hot weather testing and added the fins.

You can cut out the screens with a knife or whatever.
The screens do allow more air to pass through, but here's the trick....you're allowing more air to pass through, but at the same velocity as the original airflow...what this means is that the engine thinks you're getting less air than you really are. This is a bad thing. I did it before I knew what I was doing, and lost power on the dyno. This is because the engine was now running what it thought to be the correct A/F ratio, when it was really too lean. If I were you, I'd leave it alone.
