Default 1995 engine issues

My son recently bought a 1995 corvette. 68k miles and in real nice condition

we drove it for a few days and the engine started making noise. Kinda like a chirping sound. It also was running considerable rougher. There does appear to have an oil leak on the intake gasket.

no lights on. We changed the belt and still the same sounds

any ideas on what could be causing this.

Congrats. That is very low mileage.
Sorry, to hear that.
Very hard to imagine anything failing as of yet.
As of now alternator voltage?
How much oil registered on the stick. oil pressure?
Did this car sit for a long time outside?
Did you try spinning the Alternator pulley when the belt was replaced?

Hey thank you for chiming in and sorry I have been out on a corvette trip to eureka springs.

The alt voltage is normal. The oil was at the proper range on the stick. Oil pressure normal. The car has been garaged.I did not spin the alt pulley when we replaced the belt.

What we did do is we took the belt back off and started the engine and the noise went away. We started to dig into the water pump and noticed anti freeze. we took off the water pump and also noticed that oil looks to be leaking out the intake manifold When we removed the water pump it did not appear to be making any noise when spun.

getting ready to get back into it this week. any suggestions?

With the belt now removed. No noise.
you now isolated to a accessory.

Start with spinning each accessory faster is best..
Alternator, idle & tension pullies, power steering pulley, AC
water pump with a drill on the spline.

If you think a 95 with 68k miles is "very low mileage" what would you say about a 93 with 8k miles and a 95 with 11k miles?

Take off the belt and spin each pulley by hand, accesories and idlers and tensioner. Anything thats not as smooth as silk is the culprit.
