If you're asking about the 10in. steel "frisbee" bolted to the front of your water pump??..........no, you don't need to put it back on. GM added this for awhile, but I, and most others, removed it.

The piece you are asking about is lovingly called the "frisbee" and no, you do not need it. The original purpose was to dampen vibration when the AC compressor engaged. Run a search on "frisbee" to learn more that you need about it.
