Default Which Cap/Coil/Rotor setup...Hypertech or Accel???

Not sure which is better. Engine is still stock w/all the add ons.
Also, do they require a larger Spark Plug Gap

I did a past search and found that many people were happy with the Hypertech coil/cap/rotor setup. Aside from those nylons screws for the rotor, I couldn't be happier with mine. :)

I have a $15 Conrad cheapo cap& rotor from Autozone, but they do have brass terminals. Aside from that I have an MSD coil, an MSD low impedence HEI bushing, MSD 8.5mm wires, and a cheapo Wells control module from Autozone also.

Made power all the way to 6300 like this, so I can't complain. The MSD box went on after this stuff.

Default Ignition

Before the DFI went in(New distributor)I had the Hypertech coil-cap and a gm rotor. I tossed the hypertech rotor after those friggin' screws loosened up one too many times. It never missed a beat.

Are these screws that loosen up common for all Rotors, or just Hypertech's? Also, does the pennum extention plate fit over the Hypertech?

I am using the Hypertech cap/coil/rotor, but I ditched the nylon screws and re-used the original metal units. I also gapped the plugs to .045". Everything seems to be working nicely.

Ok, seems like I'm on an ignition system binge tonight ;) Anyway, replacing your coil is pointless. The cap and rotor don't matter as long as they don't come apart. The wires will help...look for low impedence wires. DO NOT regap your spark plugs. Buy the ones designed for your car, check them, and if a few are wrong (I'd be surprised if they are), exchange them for ones that meet spec. But you should never change the gap in your plugs. Don't buy Splitfires...they're a waste of money and potentially damaging to the engine. Bosch Platinum (any of them) are good plugs...the Platinum +4s will last longer than standard plugs. Other than that, I wouldn't waste your money. If you are building a Gen 1 motor that you plan on revving past 6k rpm, get an MSD and be done with it...don't try to upgrade the stock HEI because it won't help. If you want explanations for this, I have posted some reasons on other ignition threads, or ask me to on this one and I will....
