Are there any tricks to install the manual trans. Cant see anything going on in the bellhousing. The release bearing is on the transmission ok but I cant get the input shaft in. Do I need to have the transmission in gear turn it over to get the splines to align. Maybe someone makes dowel pins to align the trans to the bellhousing.
First off the throw out bearing needs to be in the
clutch fork. I'm sure your clutch kit came with a dummy spline to align the clutch if that doesn't slide freely your fighting an uphill battle.
Once all is aligned it should be a shake and push in

1st question, has the clutch been worked on? If so, was a alignment tool used when installing the PP. If that didn't happen you could be dealing with a clutch plate that isn"t centered not allowing the input shaft to mesh with the splines in the clutch plate and then go on into the pilot bearing. If the clutch wasn't disturbed it does help to have the trans in gear so that you can turn the output shaft to help align the input shaft with the teeth in the clutch plate. Are you using a trans jack or just trying to muscle it in by hand?
How far from mating the trans to the bell housing are you? In other words, the distance between the mating surface of the front of the trans and the mating surface on the back of the bell housing? This will give us an idea as to if you are through the clutch plate and only having issues of getting the pilot bearing to mate or if you still haven't made it through the clutch plate.
Iam right at the splines. Have not engaged yet. Thats why i was thinking of turning the trans over. Which shaft on the trans can i move and direction to get it into gear? I think the spearation distance is an inch or two.
If you put the trans in gear you should be able to turn the output shaft a little to get the input shaft to turn. It really doesn't matter which direction you turn it. and it will only need to be turned a slight amount to get the splines to align. The biggest thing is that you have the trans straight on to get it to mesh. Any misalignment be it up/down or side to side will prevent it from going in. Are you doing this alone or can you get a helper to turn the output while you try wiggle it in?
It doesn't really matter as long as it turns the input shaft. If you can get it into any gear it should allow you to move the input by turning the output. Do you have the arms on the side of the trans mounted or did you take them off when you were pulling the trans? If they are off you could use a wrench on the flat sides of the shaft where the shift arms mount against the side of the trans to get it in gear.
The bolts are 1/2" SAE but I'd guess you don't have the angles right if the splines won't align. Put a little grease on the splines. Also be sure to grease the fork ball, the bearing retainer, and the face of the throw out bearing.
