I need to get to my heater/oil coolant T tube underneath my AC compressor for my 87 corvette. I have a coolant leak I've traced to one of those tubes. I understand there are three main bolts, the hidden T45 screw by the compressor, and having to unbolt the bracket from the water pump to be able to get the AC compressor clearance to pull off. Is that all there is to it? I cannot get much of a better write up/video of it. Is there anything else I should be wary of? I haven't done this type of job before DIY so I am trying to see what I need to do regarding the refrigerant or something else I am missing. Thanks.
Hello,
I have an 84 and removing the AC compressor was a bear. I am not sure if the 87 and 84 have the same set up since I have the cross fire injection. There is a bolt near the valve cover that will not let you remove the compressor from the bracket because you can not get the bolt out far enough because of valve cover interference. The rigid fuel lines in the 84 run up inside of the bracket between the compressor and bracket. There are a couple places down on the frame where the lines need to be detached to allow more wiggle room to remove the bracket and the compressor together to remove the bolt that hits the valve cover. I didn't have to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel system just sheet metal clamps to the frame then the lines can be moved just a little more so the bracket can have that little extra room to be removed.
Once the bracket was removed those hoses are very accessible.
