I noticed a small spot on the floor of my garge a month ago but my garage is mess so i put a newspaper underneath it and forgot about it. I went out today to look at it and the newspaper has a got a pretty good collection of something on it. At first i thought i was brake fluid (still could be) but it is darker and smells a little different than what is in fill cap (i compared the two). It is dripping onto the floor just about an inch from where the gills meet the door. You can see drops hanging from the bottom edge of the gills. I can take pictures but have no way to host them. I really need a shop manual, where do i get them from?
Thanks scorp will do. Auto tranny so its not clutch fluid. It is leaking almost exactly from where it says Jacking point. I guess it could be oil, but i don't know what the hell i'm talkin about. i'll mail the pics right away. I/m not real good at this computer thing either but i think i sent them to you. Gotta go to work i'll check back later.

Um, have you noticed any problems with your brakes? The brake lines run RIGHT by there. I always have to be careful jacking up my car to make sure I don't pinch one of those lines.

That looks like more than just a "little" leak. It also looks pretty dark for brake fluid unless you've been boiling it from frequent hard stops. Last time I looked brake fluid was clear
Re: Car is leaking something from somewhere? (Hamert)
True true. I was going more on location than color, as I have seen brake fluid that dark before. Besides, it's not uncommon for racing brake fluids to have dyes in them that make them dark. Not being familiar with the auto transmission layout, are there any transmission fluid cooling lines going from the trans to the radiator that go through there?
Re: Car is leaking something from somewhere? (Chefskeez6)
My 90 was doing almost the same thing. It was leaking transfluid from the speed sensor on the left side (drivers side) of the transmission. It would leak back to the driveshaft and sling it to the side. Take a good look at the tail of the transmission.

If you think that might be tranny fluid, man you better start praying that it's not right now  Tranny fluid should be cherry red. Tranny cooler lines run on the passenger side of the vehicle I believe. Looks like oil to me. Check around the intake manifold and the oil temp/pressure sender behind the distributor. Use an inspection mirror and a flashlight to see if oil is leaking back there.

Yes i have noticed a problem with my brakes. I have only driven the car for less than two months before i took it off the road and the one thing i always complained about was how heavy the brake pedal was, i mean i really gotta lean on it to make it stop. I got to buy a shop maual and build some kind of ramps, the ones i have won't work. I am still skeptical that it is brake fluid as it doesn't smell quite the same.
Just a thought. Anybody know where to get, or have actually tried, those dyes you can put in the oil or tranny fluid? Not the ones you need the black light for but the ones that actually change the color of the oil. You need to get the car on ramps/jackstands and look underneath. With that much dripping it will probably be obvious. If not, then clean everything off with brake cleaner that has any oil residue on it, drive it hard for an hour, jack it back up and look at it. If that was brake fluid the master cylinder should be obviously low on fluid.

Yes, those UV test kits are worth their weight in gold. Helped me track down an oil leak. I don't think there are any for use in brake fluid, but you can put it in everything. Really looks like oil to me though. I've fought my share of oil leaks.
Well i got the car jacked up and i crawled underneath it and could really find much. All i can say is that the leak is coming from between the plies of metal that you jack the car up on. I know for a fact it is not trannsmission fluid.
