My '86 did the same thing. I would keep trying everytime I remembered and eventually it started working. It works fine now. I think it probably was not used very often and kind of stuck when turned back towards Acc.

Try some graphite in the cylinder where the key goes and contiue trying it. I had to take mine out to get it to work. Beware if you have to take out. You need a steering wheel puller, plate depresser, and to note the telescope adjuster orientation. You also have to get behind the direction/highbeam switch, patience. One torx or allen screw holds it in becareful not pinch the vats wire also
