1993 100,000 miles replace opti, coil, ignition control module, plugs and wires, fuel pump 50,000 miles ago. About 8 months ago opti failed and replaced. 2 days ago while driving it shut down on me. After turning over it started on me and got it to work. Wouldn’t start after that. I wasn’t t getting spark when cranking over, I replaced coil and ignition control module. It’s started but has died on me several times. Sometimes it will run fine with no problems but then ultimately die. It does have a H16. The dreaded opti. My question is…..could the opti intermittently work. And would a failed opti create a no spark coming from the coil?
Failing solder joint(s) on the opti module will cause intermittent operation and eventually total failure. Fixable if you can run a soldering iron. Since pulling the opti is a PITA check the wiring and connectors for damage or retracted pins first.
