I was considering buying some zr1 rims but they are all 9.5's all the way around, my car has 8.5's up front 9.5's in the rear. Will I see a negative effect by moving to all the same tire size? I thought the fronts were slimmed for better performance. They don't make the run flats by firestone at 315's so I'm stuck at 9.5's.......Tell me what you think i'm bidding on the rims and its' up in an hour. Also will a stock 93 wheel well clear properly without rubbing on when I steer to to the extra inch added to the 8.5
Help me Please!!!!
Seems that if the GS's came with them, your car should be fine. Besides, I think that the 9.5's were an option on your car, just like my 96. Someone else should chime in soon....
Do the tires rub at all? What size tires on the front? I'm thinking 285/40/17's on all four rims. Do your tires rub at all when the wheel is turned all the way over? Please let me know
No rubbing on mine but I'm using 275/40/17. Mine arn't close to rubbing. You should be able to go with the 285's but I can't say for sure because I have never tried it.
The 92's had 9.5's all the way round... they went to 8.5's to reduce "tracking" (following the ruts in the road) and to introduce understeer a little earlier. You'll be fine with 9.5's. :yesnod:
Thanks for the responses!! It seems that I will be ordering my rims from wheel replicas for $709. I like the ZR1 5 spoke and the chrome, I wanted chrome saws just can't seem to justify the core charges. Firestone run flats will do the car good, plus with the LTPWS, I know I'll always be "road hazard" safe per say....... :yesnod: Any opinions on the wheel place? I've read some archives and someone lathed it and they were tried and true. So I'll give em a whirl unless someone says they are total garbage.............thoughts????????
Sorry to chime in after the fact, but a friend of mine put 9.5's all the way around on his '94 last year without any problems at all. Gives the car a nice, "beefy" stance. :auto:
They were 9.5 standard on all 4 until 93 when they switched for the tracking problem housewives were complaining about. They still put 9.5 on all 4s on the Z07 cars through '96 and had 9.5 front on GS coupes. They won't rub. You could fit 11" with 315s and be ok in the front. I would use 275 on them instead of 285. They are the correct size tire for that rim and won't pucker. They are cheaper and will actually improve handing over 285 from the reduction in pucker. They used the 285 rear in the 93-96 because its outer diameter matched the 255 necessary for the front with an 8.5. Get the rims and some good tires or get even 11 for the rear. The benefits of 9.5 on all 4 is you can rotate. You will however notice more tracking in truck ruts. If this happens, apply pressure to the right hand pedal and get in the fast lane slow poke. :steering:
Thanks man.........I think 275 in front on 8.5 rims and 315 in rear on 11's all with Grand sport offsets are the way I'm going to lean. I have to figure out if they have a run flat tire of that size.
Foot is always leaning on the right pedal, the only slow lane I see is the on and off ramps....... :jester The other lanes are only there to pass when the left one gets busy.......JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!
Thanks again all
That's what I have but I have 9.5 front. The 8.5 will pucker with the 275. The 9.5 and 11 is the GS coupe stock size. Looks mean. I'd also recommend GS fender flares. They really look good and you can get them from 18carfan for $150. Make sure you get the GS offset and not the ZR-1 offset or they will stick out an extra half inch in the rear. Mine stick out 1/2" already with the GS offset as I'm using Michelin Pilots which seem fatter than the average tire.
