1995 Auto Xmission Intermittant Shift Problems
I've got a 1995 base coupe with about 76K miles. The transmission has developed an intermittant problem when shifting above 2nd gear. Reverse, first and first to second work fine. But when it's not working, the tranny won't shift into 3rd during normal acceleration, but seems to go into nuetral with the engine revving up. If you let off the gas and then accelerate very slowly it will usually go into 3rd. You go through the same routine from 3rd to 4th. It did this to me once, and I made it back home. Next time I tried it, it seemed to work fine. But when I went to drive the next time... problem returned. Brought her into an excellent xmission shop, who warned me ahead of time about electronic problems with the 4L60E tranny. Guess what? When the tech. drove the car, the tranny worked fine. He checked it out throroughly, drove it again and it still worked fine. Based on that, he felt we shouldn't do a rebuild, but look for another problem. We did have the fluid changed. When I drove it home, it couldn't have shifted better... very strong, definite shifts in the right rpm range with no detectable slipping. I found similar threads in the forum... but nothing that talked about this being intermittant. Most responses were "bring it in to xmission shop" which I did. Anyone have any suggestions?
