Default Bewildering Exhaust Options

I think it's time to search out some Local Corvette Clubs (which is a good idea regardless) so I can maybe LISTEN to some actual exhaust systems. Lot's of good recommendations - Corsa, Borla, Power Effects ...Flowmaster, I've been thoroughly
:D
It is a nice confusion too. On the Power Effects website, it had a graph of air flow comparison for straight pipes, LT1 factory, L98 factory, 2.5" Flowmaster, 2.5" Dynomix ST, 2.5" Borla and Open/Closed options on the PE. The 2.5" Flowmaster barely exceeds L98 factory (I have an LT1, but the CFM difference is only 44).
In the real world, what the heck does it mean? From info on other threads, I had decided upon Flowmaster, but it seems to not provide a lot, say compared to the others. Any live experiences to help share to slow down my head's spinning?

I am always leary about manufactures "claims", as they will manipulate the results to show only positive results for thier product over others.
Everyone does it, so I take thier posted findings with a grain of salt. Have you noticed that a Chevy salesman has the best product on the marlet, according to him, until he becomes a FORD saleman? lol

HOWEVER.... I am totaly happy with my Powere effects system, and the customer service that comes with it. I cant verify the performance gains, but the quality of the system, and the "sound" are tremendous.

I know more then a couple people who have picked up 12 HP with the flow master system... hard to beat the sound and power for 1/2 of what most other systems cost.

IMO, when dealing with exhaust issues, less is more. ANYTHING in the way of a restriction costs you HP. I have the Mid-Am resonator eliminator and it sounds so sweet as well as cleans up the back. The standard cats muffle well enough.

FWIW,

BIG JIM

You're right on the money. Attend some events and listen to others' exhaust. There's a big difference in tone between the various systems.

If you want a SBC V8 to sound like what it's supposed to sound like, get flowmaster. They are awesome!

I have the TPIS FlowMaster cat-back behind my L98 and like the sound and performance boost. Since I did front Y and cat along with the cat-back I don't have data on the cat-back alone.

If you're still interested by early March, you could come to Raceway Park and hear a few systems.

Good idea to listen to them first. I will, however, go on record as casting my vote with Flowmaster.

Have fun.....
