If you still have the old cap and wires, then just put them back in the same spot. Did you pull or otherwise not have the original distributor in place? From memory, the distributor should go in with what would previously been the vacuum advance mechanism on the passenger side facing about the #6 cylinder, and the #1 wire would be on the terminal roughly pointing toward the #1 cylinder. With electronic control instead of vacuum advance, the big HEI distributor body should still have the cutout where the vacuum advance would have been.
