1990 the first year with the combo Turn Signal Cruise and Wiper all built into the same stalk. I have never seen the Whipers run since I got this project car. The FSM tells me to start at the Switch however that's not all that easy to get to. So I have Power at both ends of the 25amp Fuse. It looks as though I have no power at the Motor itself. When I twist the Washer I think I'm hearing the Washer Motor running. If I was to just start throwing Parts at it I would try another Switch but they look to be very hard to come by. If I want to test the Switch I have how do I? Is the Switch in the Stalk itself and if I can fish the wire out to the plug I can Ohm it out ? The pictures make the Plug look pretty simple to control all of the above functions. Or is the Switch really in the Multi Switch in the Colum ?
Well I have not got very far I was going to undo the Plug under the Dash and see if I could hot wire it to make the Motor run and verify that the switch is bad. When I came to the White wire that had butt splices on either side of the plug I lost interest obviously somebody has been here before. Today was a sunny day so I drove the Car and had a chance to make a list of everything else that's wrong. I'm headed for work in Alaska Monday so this car is going on the back burner till spring. Using the search here on CF most of the write ups are 10 years or more on this subject. Back then it sounded lie the Stalk was hard to come by and the Wiper Switch ( the part that breaks and gives you the floppy Stalk ) was not. Today January 2023 it has reversed. The Stalk is now avalable but the Switch not.
The Stalk is avalable under the Part Number for Standard DS1259 interchange 25140558 for around $153. It is also avalable threw NAPA for a little over $300 not sure if its twice as good or not. I see e-bay has one at $450.
The Wiper Switch is not being made and it looks as though there is no stock. But You can try the following numbers;
Standard DS1589
Borg Warner S 3533
AC Delco D6395C
I'm a little surprised these parts are Corvette only and not generic to other GM vehicles. It would be nice if somebody in the know knew of a Switch that is close enough to work.
