I recently bought a vette, a 1993. When I first tried it out I noticed a rattling noise coming from the front of the car. The seller told me he just had the pads and rotors replaced. Didn't really trouble me much until I drove it home which was an hour drive. Anyway when I lifted the hood I grabbed on to the calipers and they were loose. more in the up and down position than the side to side motion. NOw, is this something normal or maybe something left out of the repair! Anyone with ideas?
Congragulations on the vette, and welcome to the forum, I dont know about the brake pads or anything so I cannot help you on that but what colors your car? ;) :flag
Thank you for your friendly welcome. The car is or I believe TEAL metallic. It isn't my first but maybe my last as i'm getting along in age some. My very first was in 1964 when I was at BEALE AIR BASE in upper calif., I purchased a 1953 from another GI. I paid $450.00 for it. When I left the following year I sold it for $850.00 which I thought I did well! Kick my butt today! Than in 1971 I bought a basket case 1967 small block convert for $650.00. I put together that car using all the parts that came with it. Turned out decent and sold it for $2000.00. I didn't care much for it as it was too loud with side pipes. So, cutting this shorter I came across this 1993 for $11,500 last fall. Only 42kmiles and the guy was going thru a PAINFULL devorce (common among motorheads I guess). So far happy with the car although can't be driven in the deep snow here in Vermont. If no one has any answer about the brakes I can just bring it to the local ROCK dealer. Thanks
WOW you have a pretty good history with Corvettes, Anyway which year or generation do you think had the most interior room for legs, upper body and sideways? from the driver to pass seat? I think you might want to see or try out what is mentioned above for some help. :yesnod:
oh. those are the clips that are missing. I oversized the pins to fix it. It worked but i want the clips too if they belong. Are they avail from dealer?
I'd also make sure the caliper main bolts are good and tight. Do not know the torque spec for them but it is high, on par with wheel lugs and also you are supposed to use red formula thread lock on them as well. This explains why you practically need a sledge hammer and a 3' breaker bar to get them loose when doing a brake job!
