Default Why do Mustangs sound better than 'Vettes?

I can see the flame ***** flying but I can honestly say that Mustang GT's and Cobra's sound better than my Corvette. Even the 'Vettes that I've heard with aftermarket exhausts don't sound as good to me, they just get louder where the Mustangs have that rumbling sound that I like better.
Is there a way, without buying a Mustang, to get that performance sound in a Corvette?

Different firing order and even their stock exhaust system isn't all that bad.

Which aftermarket exhausts have you heard for a Corvette? Probably things like the Corsa and Power effects. All of these things are tuned for less interior resonance.

I run a pair of flowmaster mufflers and even the die hard 5.0 fans say my car sounds good. Most of the Mustangs I've seen have flowmasters, maybe that's what you're looking for, although my car hardly sounds like a Mustang.

IMHO though they ALL sound the same. At least there is some variance in the Chevy world. Me and my friends can hear a mustang a mile away, just something about them. Personally I don't like their sound, but to each their own.

You've got to be kidding??? I can make a honda civic sound better then the stock exhaust on the vette, but I'd give you one guess as to what car I will always want in a heartbeat.

Personally, I could care less about how a car sounds as long as it can whoop butt on 99.9% of the surrounding competition.

I'm not saying that I'd rather own a Mustang I'm just saying that for all of the performance that a Corvette offers it should have a little more "growl" to it.
Oh and by the way, I doubt that you could ever make a Honda sound better than a Corvette. Those things have got to be the most annoying sounding vehicles on the road when equipped with "fart pipes".

I recently had a passenger in a Mustang tell me that he thought he lost some of his hearing because I stomped on the gas when his window was open. I run TPIS long tube headers, no cats, into a Corsa system...if you want a rumble and a roar this will do it for you!

I agree with Scorp, I think it's the firing order. I am not sure though.

We have a 1994 F-150 Lightning with a 351W. It is supposed to have the same firing order as the 302, but even with a Flowmaster exhaust, it does not have that distinctive "Mustang" sound.

Maybe someone else will offer some more ideas.

My friend has a 2000 Mustang GT with Flow's and man does it sound sweet. I have B&B Tri-Flows and I think his is STILL louder than mine for some REASON?!? I was pissed because everyone said the B&B's are so loud. They have a BETTER sound than the Mustang with Flows by far, but not as loud. I also have the X pipe!

How much louder was the car when you removed the cats and installed the long tubes. i am running elim. pipes and want to put long tubes on with no cats but i am concerned that it will be unbearable to drive in with no mufflers and no cats with only the stock resonator to muffle the sound.

Keep in mind you're dealing with quite a bit less displacement. That's why the imports with the coffee cans for mufflers are so loud. They sound like chainsaws, but they're loud.

One more thing. Cam profiles have a huge impact on exhaust tone. Most notably the lobe separation. I don't know anything about Ford cams because I've never cared. If they run a tighter lobe separation than the 114 degrees that GM favors, exhaust will sound better.

It was a big difference, I had the Corsa system on for almost 2 years before I got teh headers and ditched the cats. I will say this though, there is still zero resonence (sp?). I can have conversations in the car, listen to the radio, even talk on a cell phone...as long as I'm not at 80% or more throttle. I really like it, and it really does scare people! :D

Ummm...surprise...they have the SAME firing order. They just number the culinders differently.

In fact, there used to be two different firing orders for some 302/351 engines, from the early 70's, and I think it was only cylinders 5-7 swapping for scavenging effects. This confused the heck out of a lot of people who swapped an odd firing order cam in an engine not originally equiped with it.

BTW: Even Dodge uses the same firing order as Chevy and Ford.

Weird isn't it?

I have to agree with ya... I don't know what it is but 302/351's can sound very sweet.

Doesnt change anything about what you said.

It simply means you are wrong about the firing order making the sound different...since they both have the same firing order.
