I am about to do the valve stem seals on my 92 LT1. I got the Felpro SS72861 Valve stem seal set. It only comes with the actual valve stem seals that go on the bottom. I watched a couple of you tube videos and see that there is an additional o-ring right below the valve keeper. I can't find this seal anywhere, except Rockauto. RA lists only one left in stock as part number S300P. I would rather find these local. I did an internet search and a few odd sites come up as carrying them, but I don't trust those. One lists them for $545. I found a set of Comp Cams 501-16 that list they're for 11/32 valves. When I put in the check your fit it lists them as not fitting the 92 LT1 (using autozone's website).
So, does anyone know the part numbers for a set of the o-rings that fits. Or do the comp cams 501-16s fit and autozone just doesn't have it listed properly.
I appreciate the help.
If your 92 has the positive valve stem seals then you do not use the o-ring seals. O-ring seals are designed to be used in conjunction with the metal umbrella spring shields. The o-ring stops oil from coming down the stem from the retainer and keeper area, the metal umbrella shield limits oil splash onto the stems.
Those seals for $545 better come with a head attached to them!
Thank you for the reply. I really am not sure what the LT1 has. I didn't want to tear it apart just to have to order some o-ring. That makes sense though as the felpro kit doesn't include them and auto parts stores don't show any listing for them. It's annoying that Rock auto shows them under the 92 Corvette valve stem seal section.
