I’ve noticed the rear dampers don’t seem to do any noticeable work if I push the car down and let it go, basically it oscillates a few times before stopping while the front stops very quickly. This is with the car standing obviously, regardless of the SRC position, I know it also tightens up with speed but it doesn’t sound normal to me. There is also a visible trace of an oil leak from both rear shocks that points to the idea there could be something wrong with them. The SRC panel light sometimes comes on but always goes off so the actuators should be ok.
I was thinking of buying a b6 z51pair but then I guess it would trigger the panel light and would the front ones still work? What if I unplug the connector?
I could also buy an fx set (if indeed they are faulty) but I’m a but concerned about reliability of the actuators and I’m not from US so a rebuild service would cost me twice the money, plus the car is not a daily driver, a tight setting doesn’t bother me.
I also have a 91 that had the FX3 setup. You can remove the shocks and disconnect the actuator pigtails without throwing any errors. I replaced my shocks with Bilstein B8’s and have been very happy with them.
Thank you
I’m still not sure if the shocks are defective. The oil film is normal as per FSM but the rear is soft and oscillates, could be that is gets harder with speed. I could check the actuators gears ti see if everything is normal. But in the FSM it says you need to remove the shocks to acces the actuators. I would rather buy fixed shocks than removing those anytime I want to check the gears.
