So my brake light switch is malfunctionion on my 1996 base model Corvette the lights stay on whenever I let off the brake pedal. The brake pedal works perfectly and goes back up where its suppose to be at. I was wondering if I would have to buy a used one from another Corvette because I noticed that they have been discontinued. I did find one on AutoZone and I know that it says it doesn't fit my vehicle but it looks really similar to the brake light switch on the Corvette. Any thoughts? This is the one I saw on the AutoZone website.
I'm sure I know the answer but still need to ask, is the switch properly adjusted with the plunger fully depressed at rest position.
These switches aren't really Hi tech and if you have the ability to disassemble clean up and reassemble. It's only a wedge pin that at rest pushes the contacts apart
If you need what you imaged there use these GM numbers for maybe an interchange at NAPA or your favorite local might do for you. 25551819 or 10170430. The 93+ is a combination switch that hasn't been available for quite some time. Whatever you buy and if it's a fix be sure to post it. Do the diagnostics first and don't just be throwing parts at it. Do you have the FSM (Factory Service Manual)? I've suggested those previously and they've been mentioned to work.

It does look to be sitting properly on the brake pedal. I have also discovered that if I push in on the brake switch with my finger it makes the lights turn on, but if I'm compressing the brake switch shouldn't the lights be off?(correct me if I'm wrong) Disassembling would be a better start. I do need to ask is how do you remove the brake switch assembly or do they come out individually? Do I pull it out or do I thread it out? It is a bit difficult for me to the connectors to pull it out because of them being at the top. I'm not trying to break anything.
Here's what I'm using as reference from a picture on Google.

They slide out individually, one of the best ways I found to remove them is with a wedge, you push down the pedal put something between the plunger and the pedal then pull pedal backwards and it pushes the switch back.
But before you cut up your knuckles have you pushed the pedal down (brakes on) gotten behind switch and pushed the switch assembly all the way in against the pedal. Release the pedal the pedal should push the switch back or at least put more tension on the plunger.
I'm not convinced you're adjusted and want you to be sure we did all before moving forward with finding hard to find or cracking open the same
It's not uncommon for the switch to get knocked out of adjustment especially if something like a brake booster was done at some time

Here are some pictures of how they are sitting right now if they don't look like they're sitting right let me know ,and if you can please explain how to properly adjust it.
That's pretty good you're adjusted, now if you want remove the switch just put something between switch & plate and give the pedal a little tug back and the switch will slide back.
Great picture don't loose it Pictures say a lot like adjustment how it's held so things can be explained

How would I go on about disconnecting these? Do I just pull on them? Don't want to brake/pull any wires apart by accident.
If you look at the side there is a push down tab on each. So if you push the connector a little more ( removing som pressure from lock tab) push the release and wiggle the plug out. Do Not pull on the Wires

Finally got it out kinda struggled a bit with it. Alright then so I found these two brake switches on autozone, I know it says it doesn't fit my vehicle, but it looks exactly the same as the one in my hand. Would any of these two work or would I have to find another brake switch from a 1996 Corvette. Thank for helping me with all of this, I very much appreciate it!
The D1541D is an ACD equivalent to the 10170430 that I suggested yesterday in post #3. If it's pinned identically to the 'in your hand' only you can confirm it's a fix.

Okay thank you I'll update later if it works or not!
