Default New to vette's, need help.

I just recently have bought my friends 84 vette off him for a VERY low price. It's been wrecked and i'd like to fix it. It will need a COMPLETE rear (meaning brakes, susp, gears, you name it, unless whatever is wrong with it can be fixed cheaper and easier), needs a new rear bumper, maybe a pass side qtr panel and maybe new door. Needs just one rear pass rim w/tire. It hasn't been started in prob 2 yrs, but i'm gonna try to get it running this weekend. Is this site the best place to look for parts and help? I don't have much $ to spare on it, since i've got a truck and an f-body and mainly my money is gonna go to beef up the camaro, but for the price i got for this car I couldn't pass it up. So when I get $ here and there i'll buy stuff for the vette too. It should be worth the effort, it has a TPI (not sure what year, he always says 92, but i'm pretty sure 92 was LT1, so not sure on the year TPI) engine with 20,000 mi on it, all new black interior, it's red exterior, tranny is a turbo 400 with 600 mi on it, rear end is stock, but it's messed up and tore down since I was gonna try and fix it from the impact of the wreck. Rear pass tire sits like this, \ . Paint was brand new. Think this car is worth it. I'll try to post up some pics soon to show the damage. Sorry this is long, just trying to get everthing out, so that if ya can help, you'll know a lil bout the car. I'm in Missouri btw. Thanks. :D

Sure, this is a great place to have folks help you out. I can make two recommendations for ya.

1)Do "searches" on your topic here on the forum before you start asking your questions.

2)try not to ask to many questions in one thread. I know I start to loose interest in a thread if there are just too many questions to be answered.

You're correct in that this is the best place for help/advice, and yes 92+ non-ZR1 Corvettes had LT1s (96s with manual trannys had LT4s)

Welcome to the family!

There are several 'vettes that are being parted in the C4 for sale/wanted section. Also, look to ebay for parts. If you're patient and wait for a bargain to jump on, you can find parts pretty cheap.

As long as you can do the work yourself, you can put it back together pretty cheaply. My biggest difficulty with these cars is that they sit soooo low that (even on ramps) you can barely get under them. If you have access to a lift, you're way ahead of the game.

have fun fixing and driving it.

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I know better than to ask a bunch of questions in the same thread and should do a search next time. Wasn't thinking clearly, hadn't had anything to eat yet, but now i'm much clearer. :D I'll try some of those places you've suggested, maybe even try local salvage yards. I think it may be wiser and easier to just replace whatever is bent and broken in the rear. I'm thinking the conrol arms are just bent. I have access to a shop starting next week, as I start a new job for a local chrysler dealership, doing oil/lube tech, so that should help some. Anyways, glad to finally own a Vette.
