While coming to a rather quick stop, I noticed while pressing the brake pedal firmly while braking, it did a quick drop that felt like it dropped about a 1/2 inch. Braking power was still there and it did not drop anywhere near the floor but the "drop" was somewhat disconcerting. Was this ABS kicking in or is there a problem brewing???
Sounds like your ABS system kicking in. Was there any gravel or loose dirt on the road where you braked hard? Hopefully it's not happening all the time. I use to get the ABS kicking in every so often. That was when I got 2 new tires. The tire diameter difference from the new tires and the old tires must have triggered the ABS more often. But since the new tires wore down, now the ABS doesn't kick in anymore.. Only right after you start the car. The ABS system test.
It might be time to flush the system as the fluid is hydroscopic and so picks up moisture over time. This can boil on a hard protracted stop causing a soft pedal or a drop.
